Helping Your Kids Make New Friends
Going to open house at the begging of this school year was all new and not knowing what to expect. While still going through the same motions of the last school district we lived at I found my son and myself nervous.
Look mom there's Curtis from Uhrich' he's in my class!
After the first two days my son came home not wanting to go to school. I asked why? He replied; mom I was teased at the desk they were laughing at me. I don't know if it was because of my hair or what? But, I don't want to go back there today...I won't take anymore days off but, please just this one.
I agreed and called his teacher to tell him about my son's situation. The teacher asked for students names and asked my child to tell him of future incidents to be told to the teacher immediately so, that this type of behavior could be corrected.
He's made one more friend since then...after four days of school. He's happy and that makes a mother happy too.
Here's a list of other great points for parents;
Acknowledge feelings Talking with them and asking who was their best friend that day. Giving support to situations by telling a story of how you experienced a similar situation too. This was your expressing that their not alone and you really do understand.
Keep communication open When your child wants to talk give them your attention by turning off the computer, phone, or just stop somewhere to just listen. Don't make too many rules on what should be said, and not said let them be open and honest.
Get acquainted with other parents
Join PTO, get involved with YMCA or some other active group that supports kids in your local area.
Tour the new surrounds
Go to the park, events that are held, festivals, check on line for schedules by just typing in county/events on google.
Find outlets that attract peers
Shop at kids local favorite shops, get attire of more popular items that other kids are wearing. To make the transition a little easier.
Seek activities that match your child's interests
Keep your child involved in the activities they enjoy most.
Help your kid blend in
Cloths, music, books, movies and activities. Go to the local football games, malls and check them out to find out more.
Provide tel phone book or an index cards
Teach friendship-making skills
Introductions such as Hi, my name is.. Saying yes to invites instead of no, Having 2 hour parties for the kids after school to meet and socialize.
Connect with teacher
Call your child's teacher and ask how things are going. If you have concerns talk about them.
Check into your child's emotional health
If there's anger, loss of appetite, loss of concentration Seek professional help!
All the best!

Moving to a New School

While many families are now faced with foreclosure, loss of jobs, loss of family member, or illness; relocating is a part of living. While I have also just moved I wanted to prepair my son and his peers for this transition. In this manner I have found out much more than just the medical records of shoots and transcript from former school to be used.
This is what I found;
1. Prepare. Before your move, gather all of your child’s records and keep them readily available. Request complete copies of medical records from your child’s doctors, any Regional Center or Social Security records or evaluations. Obtain all school records such as IEPs, assessments, report cards and standardized test scores. It is also helpful to have your child’s teacher write a letter to the new teacher explaining your child’s unique needs, current academic levels and successful education strategies.
2. Call ahead. Contact the special education director of the new school district before your move to determine options for placement and services and any special procedures for enrollment for your child. Send an email or short thank you note confirming this conversation.
3. Connect. Make sure you have the email address of your child’s most recent teachers and service providers. They may come in handy when the new school district has questions regarding how to place or educate your child. Consult a local parent advocate or advocacy group such Clark County Legal Services or Nevada PEP who may be able to provide important information regarding the new school district and the most appropriate placements.
4. Preserve. Many families place their child’s records in storage where they are quickly lost among the other items. Instead, buy a big plastic tub and use it to preserve all of the documents that you have gathered. You may want to use a different-colored tub for each child. Also include a few samples of your child’s class work and home work. Keep the tub with you so that it does not get lost during the move. Although the new school district is required to obtain school records directly from the old district, you cannot depend on them to provide a complete file.
5. Enroll. When you arrive at your new home, immediately enroll your child in the new school district and provide them with a copy of your child’s current IEP (individualized education plan). Don’t be shy about listing all of your child’s special needs in the enrollment forms so that the new district will be on notice of the areas that need to be addressed.
6. Attend IEP. Within 30 days after enrollment, the new district must comply with your child’s prior IEP or develop a new one. If you are concerned about placement or services, request (always in writing) that your child be reevaluated by the new school district.
7. Plan B. Always have a back-up plan. Anticipate that there will be bumps in the road in obtaining appropriate placement, assessments and supports. In view of the ever more stringent truancy laws (Clark County School District has a practice of sending uniformed truancy officers to the home and calling Child Protective Services), it is important to plan ahead in the event that your new school district does not have the appropriate placement or services for your child.

Share your favorite PEEPS moments
Easter morning is always a delight while most of the candy is over looked my son in younger years had always gone after the PEEPS. Now as an adult I'm not to fond of them but, once in awhile I eat one. With Twittermoms and PEEPS is having a contest on sharing my favorite PEEPS moments.
What child doesn't like the cute little chick shaped treats in their basket Easter morning. They come in pink, yellow and covered in chocolate too. They are the first candy to go in the basket. While my son realized Easter is coming the request at the checkout counter is "can we get some?"
This year I had a different request, "mom I want real chicks in my basket on Easter morning". ha ha here's my idea; buy some put food coloring on them let them dry and keep them indoors until the weather is 55 or above. I should just drop them off at my sister's in suburbia. She'd just love me to death.

Share what is your favorite thing about Easter
Easter is quickly approaching us as well as new adventures for our children as they continue to go up. While keeping each year new and fresh with ideas for the holiday season I like to keep inspiring him and feeding his passion. With Twittermoms.com and the new release of the movie HOP contest I have a chance to share with you my favorite thing about Easter.
I love the warmth of the sun coming down upon the earth as the mist of the cold drew from the evening before rises off the ground in the early morning. The sound of the first bird to awaken and begin to sing it's song.
Easter is a special occasion for us as we remember the rising of Christ and how he died for our sins so, that we too have a chance to speak to God. This is a joyous season as each day we take time to make some small act in God goods works into our live's.
The day is ever unfolding it is our challenge to grip and shape a few minutes into work for God!
Making kulich-paskha-cake is a great time as well as Easter egg decorations. This year we added blowing eggs out. As my grandma Helen use to blow these out each holiday and decorate them beautifully.
So, in a nut shell all is new and I love Easter with its colors, sounds, and celebrations. Oh yeah and the new movie HOP check it out.

Summer Camp
Have you attended summer camps in previous years or is this you first year. With your little one growing up its time to start looking for a great camp. If the camp you choose is in High demand then by May it will be hard to find a spot. So, since it's the end of February it's time to get the paper work form the camp of your choice.
Tips on finding a great camp;
After finding a camp prep air your child for the stay away from home talk about the camp. Ask if they think they're ready to spend 5 days away from home? Also, let them know that he can take a buddy (stuffed animal) and make new friends. Most importantly let them help choose the activities that they can attend this gives them a sense of involvement and contentment.

Glide Into the Holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching while some of us are still making the transition. Here’s ten tips for making life easier then just glide into the holidays with Twittermoms and Oral-B Glide. These tips will not only make life easier but, more enjoyable too.
1. Seasonal changes to bring in each seasons decoration with a transition I make with ease. Putting alot of decorations up but not alot of hassel. Taking down just as easy so it isn't so hard on me.
2. Cleaning up the house and getting rid of the clutter; this could mean old toys, cloths, miscellaneous items and giving away for donations. Many organizations are collecting for the holiday season.
3. Using a to-do-list from your mobile phone comes into great use. This way everything that needs to get done. After your done just check it off and move on to the next item.
4. Groceries lists if you’re having a pot luck dinner for either Thanksgiving or Christmas using Google wave groceries list will help. This way if someone finds items for sale they can check it off the list as done. You can have as many people on this site; it’s free and very efficient. Quickly updates info it’s the fastest I’ve seen yet.
5. Go with the flow of nature if its nice uses the time to do things outside; like have a game outside, go for a walk. Wet days go to see a museum with some holiday decorations. Use your resources and check ahead for pricing and times. Try your Chamber of Commence for ideas too.

6. Try new things to keep activities interesting, challenge your boundiers you might find out something about yourself. Take a chance go with the odds you’ll find that you’ll come out ahead.
7. Turn off the electronics spend time with each other; play a family game, board games, football, scavenger hunts there’s a ton of great things to do together without spending a dime.
8. Take a poll on what everyone wants’ to do and where they want to go. This way there’s more input and more suggestions. I like using Google wave poll for this and then you can also add in RSVP. For those who don’t go share the photo’s with them then add descriptions to them together while miles apart.

Sharing five of the most important "firsts"
While wanting another child I have been looking back at many of my son's firsts. With twittermoms and Sprint I have a chance to share with you some of these first and share some tips.
Here's my lists of firsts:
1. Sun rise –
While we just moved to our county home over looking a valley from the foot hills. Our stroller ride began before the sun came up with stretching exercises and nursery rhymes. We continued this fun with our Johnny Jump and began to bounce to “the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is…they bounce and bounce and bounce.” Song this was always about smiles while I sang to my newborn of 3 months. Enjoy each new day and celebrate life
2. Bubbles –
My neighbor had purchased some bubbles and brought them over to blow over the valley to watch my son giggle with excitement. I was encouraged to give him a bubble bath as I hadn’t thought of this but, proved to be just as wonderful. With the thrill of bubble making I found a bubble machine from there we made our own little bubble world in the back yard with butterflies, birds, pretty clouds and the rustling to leaves blowing in the tress. Appreciate all that we have.
3. Reading –
We joined in our local library for summer reading and read over 100 books for a prize he received a dragon that flapped his wings. Sharing my studies of the dark ages for American literature in college with my son and my passion for learning. Using books to learn about clouds and made many pitchers of animals with cotton on construction paper. Made some paper air planes from useful diagrams from books. Recently found a great site for high-quality literature to curricular topics Booklist. Asking for wisdom.
4. Dangerous –
Enjoying curiosity and keeping safe I let my son do things that will build his masculinity and passion. Playing with a hammer I found him making wagons and trucks. Using a power drill he helped dad put a roof on the dog house. Over coming his fears with support and love to become a good man. Try 50 dangerous things you should let your children do it’s got great ideas. Walk the straight and narrow.
5. Letting Go –
Is a process that is in a continual growing period especially for boys? While all the time we prepare our children for life and how to handle each and every situation that may arise. Sometimes I just don’t have the answer, or have a doctor telling me there’s no hope, or a teacher you need to take him to a doctor for suggestions on correcting concentration. I am his parent, guardian, guide, and teacher I’ll read, experiment until I find an answer to what ever the problem will be. Being a good example like this will help in enjoying each and every part of life. Every step is another adventure that has just begun, enjoy. Have faith.
In conclusion; I hope that with community supporting our children and the access for the world wide web we can all gain alot from each other and have peace of mind.

10 Tips for Planning a Unique Baby Shower.

So, with Twittermoms and Tiny Prints I will share my idea's for a baby shower I’d want.
1. Plan out two months before baby shower check list
